This weekend, a few members of our talented team drove up to Stanford’s famous Red Barn to participate in the IHSA Zone 8 competition. This show’s perpetuation was up in the air only a week before as IHSA grappled with decisions concerning the EHV-1 outbreak in California; though of course horse safety comes first, we were all saddened by the prospect of another virus-related horse show cancellation. Thankfully, with proper precautions taken, the Zone 8 competition was given the go ahead, and we were able to send two very deserving and talented riders up to NorCal.
On April 9th, our walk-trot queen Kalena Oorlog took on the pre-novice division, while co-captain Leyla Boyar cruised around the limit flat and fences classes. Sadly we will not be sending any team members to Nationals this year, but we are still so proud of Kalena and Leyla for how they performed at Zones and throughout the whole season. UCLA is lucky to have such passionate and dedicated riders on its team!
